"Don't read the comments". How many times have you been told this? It's on almost daily repeat down our way. Along with "Don't feed the trolls", this directive is one of the most often heard internet catchphrases. And like that piece of metaphorical magic, if you don't want to end up bald and with minor concussion from banging your head while tearing your hair out, it is sage advice.

    Projects that educate the public about the pervasiveness of sexism definitely give me hope. As a lawyer, many of the women I talk to have no idea that what they have experienced is illegal, or, even more problematically, NOT illegal because of how much sexism our laws continue to tolerate. A less sexist society will enact better laws.

    As for comments, the anonymity of the internet emboldens trolls. My hope is that the vitriol they spew will be seen for what it is (sexist garbage meant to silence women and progressive men), and either ignored or used to teach others an important lesson.
